According to research by fiberglass tub experts, many people do resurface their showers and bathtubs so as to change color. On the other hand, some of the resurface their fiberglass tub or shower due to the fact that it has lost its original finish, therefore, it’s dull and very difficult to keep it clean. One of the reasons for this is that when you use your bathtub for many years, the water running through your tub will make the original finish to wear away making the tub very porous. All the hard water stains, grime, and dirt will get trapped inside the pores forcing you to use abrasive cleaners and spend a lot tome scrubbing your bathtub. This will cause the finish to wear even further. However, the good news is that there are fiberglass bathtub finishers who can assist in restoring your bathtub so that it has a new beautiful look.

In case you wish to have a fiberglass bathtub refinishing then you can contact the experts who can do the repair process without removing the fixture. This is highly beneficial bearing in mind that almost all the one piece fiberglass tub units are usually built into the structural framing of your building wall making it difficult for one to remove them. Through this, the experts will be able to save about 80 % of the cost that you would have incurred if you were to replace the whole fiberglass bathtub.

After the experts have done the repair and refinishing, your fiberglass bathtub is expected to have a better look compared to when you initially installed it. However, you will realize that many of the refinishers will simply sand fiberglass so as to prepare the surface before they apply the coating but with the professionals, they will apply a bonding agent which will assure you that the new fiberglass surface will stay bonded for many years. The experts will apply the new finish coat as a liquid so that your tub becomes non-porous after they have applied the finish. Finally, your fiberglass bathtub will be much easier to clean, look better and also be able to last longer.

Bathtub Replacement vs Refinishing

Have you noticed that your bathtub, counter, or over surfaces in your bathroom are starting to look worn down, or are even becoming a hazard? Or is your bathroom decorum simply outdated? While trying to redo these things yourself may seem appealing, there is a lot that goes into anything involved in bathroom repair. While it may cost a little more, looking for professional bathtub refinishing may be the best thing to do than Bathtub Replacement . But how do you find the right company for the job?

While this may seem like a daunting task at first, the truth is that finding the right company has never been easier. In decades past you may have had to rely on the testimony of a friend or family member, ask co-workers whom they had used in the past, or just flipped through the phone book and arbitrarily chosen a company to use. Now though, in the “information age”, anyone can simply look on the Internet for information. Many companies will have their own websites. This will allow you to get an idea of what they specialize in, as well as showing you photos of their previous work, and may even have testimonial and comments from clients they’ve worked for before. If there are no testimonials on their page, though, then another simple Internet search should bring up people’s personal reviews for many bathtubs refinishing services.

While the Internet is a great way to get an idea of what company may work best for you, it is still vitally important that you call any company that you may have interest in and ask them some very important questions. You should tell them exactly what you want to be done, and see how long such a project would take and ask them for a time frame. Also, especially if you have small children or animals, you should see what kind of chemicals they use in their refinishing process and if the fumes from them would be harmful to the smaller members of your household.

Another key factor in bathtub refinishing services is, of course, the cost. The old adage, “If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is” definitely applies here: spending too little could mean that you wind up with shoddy work which will just need to be done over again. To compare rates of other companies, though, and make sure that whoever your considering is fair and not too far above or below their competition.

Best Way to Remove Mold and Mildew from Tile Grout

As a bathtub re-finisher, I am constantly asked how to remove mold and mildew from around the tub and within the grout lines on the tile surround or inside a shower. It is actually black mildew that we are fighting and it’s not an easy fight.

Mildew binds itself to porous areas and areas that give it a surface to cling to such as silicone caulk. When you have mildew on the caulk between a bathtub and the surround it is best to remove it and just start over with a non-silicone caulk with a mildew resistant micro-ban additive.

Take a utility knife and score the old caulk length-wise from the top and from the side repeatedly until you have the majority removed. Then take your window scraper razor blade and go after the rest. Before you caulk it back in get all the nearby mildew (on the tile grout) removed as well.

Mildew thrives in a higher PH environment. Soap and minerals have higher PH levels and thus encourage mildew to grow. Staying on top of soap and minerals is the way to keep mildew at bay and this is done with a more acidic, lower PH cleaner such as Barkeepers Friend, which I highly recommend.

The key to removing mildew is by keeping a strong bleach solution on top of the affected area for a good amount of time. Having a strong grout brush is also important to impregnate the solution into the grout and work the mildew loose.
